Mid-market rate
Definition
The wholesale exchange rate, with no markup added — the benchmark of a "fair" rate.
What it means in practice
This is the rate you see on, say, Google. A retail customer rarely gets exactly this rate — usually a markup or spread is added.
Why it affects your choice
A product that exchanges at the mid-market rate (such as Wise) is transparent — you know exactly how much extra you pay.
Watch out
"Mid-market rate" in an advert sometimes applies only to certain plans or up to a limit — check the terms.
