FX fee (markup)
Definition
A percentage or amount added when you change currency.
What it means in practice
On cards and transfers: for example "from 0.64%", "3% when you pay in a currency other than your account", "no markup for EU currency exchange". This is the direct cost of the exchange.
Why it affects your choice
With frequent payments in foreign currencies the FX fee adds up quickly — one of the main costs to compare.
Watch out
The fee can vary by plan, monthly limit or weekend. Look at the total cost together with the spread.
