IBAN
Definition
An international bank account number. A Polish IBAN starts with "PL".
What it means in practice
You give an IBAN to receive or send a transfer. Without it you cannot complete a transfer.
Why it affects your choice
It often matters whether a product gives a Polish IBAN — it can be required by an employer, the social-security office (ZUS) or a public office.
Watch out
Some fintechs give an IBAN from another country (for example Lithuanian or Belgian). It works across the EU, but institutions in Poland sometimes expect a Polish IBAN.
