Multicurrency account
One account where you hold separate balances in several currencies and exchange them when you choose.
Definition
An account that lets you hold and spend several (or a dozen-plus) currencies without opening a separate account for each.
How it works in practice
By paying by card in a currency you already hold, you avoid conversion. You exchange yourself, when the rate suits you.
Why it affects your choice
This is the core of the category. Wise and bunq offer many currencies; Polish currency accounts usually support selected currencies (for example EUR/USD/GBP).
Watch out
A fintech "multicurrency" account (a dozen-plus currencies) is not the same as a currency account at a Polish bank (usually single currencies, but with a BFG guarantee).
